70 Jahre Grundgesetz - - A German History
Description
Work Description
Seventy years of peace and freedom are built, not least, on the lessons we Germans have learned from two devastating world wars and the Nazi dictatorship. The “mothers and fathers” of our Basic Law felt a deep sense of responsibility and created a unique document—a moral and legal framework that, through the groundbreaking Article 1 on human dignity, offered the newly founded Federal Republic of Germany a lasting vision and direction.
With this composition, I wish to strengthen—and perhaps awaken—a sense of awareness: awareness of our country, with all its wonderful people, its rich traditions, its diverse culture, and its place within the Western community of values. At the same time, I aim to remind us that nothing—not even peace and freedom—can ever be taken for granted.
This message runs throughout the entire piece, expressed through a recurring musical theme I call the “Basic Law motif.” It serves as the central statement of the work, binding all parts into one cohesive whole.
